April Fools’ joke: Payment by breast implant not possible

The BreastPay app claimed it would be possible to make payments by breast implant in future instead of using a bank card, smartphone or cash. However, the idea is actually an April Fools’ joke by Lucerne Clinic.   

For this year’s April Fools’ Day, the beauty clinic from Lucerne advertised an idea that sounds pretty futuristic: a breast implant that uses an integrated mini-chip to make payments. Whether in restaurants, shops or service companies, wallets, credit cards and smartphones would have been made redundant. All it would have taken was to hold one’s breast to the card reader and the amount would have been debited. 

What sounds highly revolutionary was in fact a hoax made up by the Lucerne Clinic. “I’d actually find it exciting to pursue the idea further. After all, it does offer some concrete benefits. But we won’t be offering this service at any time in the near future,” chuckles Dr Jürg Häcki, specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery and founder of Europe’s leading breast augmentation clinic.  

If there were such an offer, it might well originate from the Lucerne Clinic. After all, it is known for its innovative solutions and its commitment to bringing great joy to its patients.
